Been doing this diet for about 8 weeks now and lost about 3lb. Better than nothing but I think it's hampered by me lacking control on non fasting days which I know is not the idea . For example I fasted yesterday and today had pain au chocolat, crisps , caramel shortbread , a chicken salad , more crisis then prawn stir fry and wine !! Very uncontrolled feel cross and annoyed at myself. So how do you all keep more controlled ? I'm at home with a 3 month old baby so I pick a lot.

I did that too once after a fast and was a bit cross with myself. It was almost like sabotaging my own efforts. Can you empty the unhealthy food out of your cupboards and just have the nice odd treat when out and about - at friends houses etc? Or buy one treat a day and have it last thing before bed.

I'm afraid the only answer is - no snacking! Have treats by all means, but have them as part of your meal.

Once you begin eating on your NFDs, your appetite is stimulated. When you finish a meal it takes time for the appetite to die down. Any nibbling, and you're back to square one. Here's my take on it - with some tips - after IFing for 17 months:

I need to impose rules on non-fast days too. So non-fast days that fall between Monday through Friday I never snack between meals and often skip breakfast too. Weekends are much more of a free-for-all, but as I've been fasting for 6 months now my appetite has much diminished and I rarely binge (cause then I get a stomach ache).

I am limiting myself on NFDs to fruit, veg, wholemeal bread, soup, lower fat cheese, chutney and the odd wine, G&T and low-cal hot chocolate. I try to eat within my TDEE and don't usually eat back exercise calories (but slipped today). I don't buy junk food then I can't eat it.

  1. No snacking
  2. Try not to buy the junk : I found shopping on fast days when I was "in the zone" stopped me buying stuff that was empty calories
  3. Eat for the size of body you want to have : work out what your TDEE will be at your target weight and hold that number in the back of your head
formicadinosaur · 20/07/2013 22:31

Talking peace - that's quite interesting, eating at the target weight TDEE

Talkinpeace · 20/07/2013 22:37
Wink its what I effectively did : I worked out my TDEE as if I was sedentary (I'm a gym bunny) and aimed roughly for that

not exactly : there is no point being miserable, but rather than finish every last bite, it does no harm to remember that when you are thin you'll need less food

my TDEE is 1750 now (allowing for gym)

Thank you all. Going to fast tomorrow and try not to overeat today. The no snacking rule is good - I am a dreadful picker
