Fasting / 5:2 diet

Talk about intermittent fasting and 5:2, including what’s worked for others. Mumsnet hasn't checked the qualifications of anyone posting here. You may wish to speak to a medical professional before starting any diet.

Totally converted to the amazing and easy 5:2 diet.

Just want to tell everyone about how pleased I have been with 5:2 diet.

I have dieted before and lost weight only to put it back on again but I saw my self been able to do the 5:2 long term. All the health benefits were amazing and a real incentive and secondly I was bound to lose weight.

Started at the end of January. I never found it to hard on the fast days (I have done proper fasts before just water) except when it was really cold and I got cold so much easier. Yes the first few fasts felt hungry all day but just reminded myself it was just one day and tomorrow I could eat all the things I missed out on.

Now almost 6 months in wow. I feel great in myself , I sleep less but have more energy. I'm more active because I have more energy. I'm asthmatic and even that's been better especially as the pollen count is very high.

Also I have lost almost 1 1/2 stone, dropped a dress size and fast heading down to the next size down. All my old clothes are falling off me. It's amazing I have lost 2 st before but never quite got out of my old dress size. This week I have had three people notice my weight lose again never before has this happened. The other thing that is great I need new bras not because the cups are gets to bigger but the band are getting to big.

The fast days are now just a normal part of my week and they often change to suit the week. Not really strict with the 500 calories probably more like 500-700 calories. I who ate salad because it was healthy not because I liked them now eat them nearly everyday. Salad is main food on my fast days it's amazing how much a large salad will fill you up. Yes I feel a little hungry mid morning but it soon passes, and it's hard not to end up picking in the evening but that's habit not hunger.

I think my words speak for them self, if in any doubt about this diet just bite the bullet and give it a try. You do need to stick with it beyond the first few fasts as they are the hardest for most. It gets easier ever fast day till it becomes normal.

Blimey. You know I really think I may give this a go.

I've been so miserable about my weight for most of my adult life. I've lost on diets and then piled it back on. I have a very stressful and very sedentary job with long hours so the weight just sits there. I've flirted with all diets, even this one - but I only managed a day and I was soooo hungry I thought I was being stupid.

However, you're the third person this week (2 in rl) who have recommended this diet to me. I may just dive in again.

I found it so easy. Loved it.

But then found out I was pregnant so had to stop.

Its top of my 'To Do' list when It comes to shifting baby fat.

Thinking of giving it a go too... Got 2 and a half stone to lose.

What kind of things can you have on fast days?

Bramblesinforrin · 14/07/2013 07:57

I totally agree with you - I could post the same op under my name! Started feb, lost 1.5 stone and at least a dress size, new bras, new pants, fortunately new clothes in sales as my trousers were sliding down when I went out for a walk (the less said the better about having to hold my knickers up ...).

Now now maintain e and have re educated myself.

There is a rolling 5:2 thread, all comers welcome.

Good to hear. I've just started, just completed my 2nd fast day & looking forward to seeing what the scales say on Monday (in trying to only weigh myself weekly and not straight after a FD, as I suspect there will be a "false" loss showing on the scales as your system is empty, iyswim!) So far so good, I've not found it too hard at all. Well done on your weight loss.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 14/07/2013 08:10

Just completing my first week and liking it too so far. I did weigh myself after 2nd fast day so will probably be a bit disappointed tomorrow am but will be happy with a loss as its so straightforward.

lexcat · 14/07/2013 09:02

I have found don't try to get to fix on the weight loss. This diet is a change in life style, plus if you weigh between fast days you will notice the weight is back again. Unlike other diets I have done I know I have been dropping the lbs because of my clothes getting looser and looser.

My father who is also on the 5;2 diet for health reasons (mind his trousers are all getting looser, they were getting on the tight side) has bag of carrot in his office draw for fast days.

Isn't it a fantastic way of life? Smile

I started about the same time as you and I don't see a reason why I should ever stop.
