Fasting / 5:2 diet

Starting on Monday - anyone want to be my buddy?

I'm planning on starting next week - it's my birthday on Thursday so want to wait until after then!

I'm 32, 5'7 and have about 5 stone to lose. I have a 10 month old DS and I have recently been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid gland, which slows the metabolism and makes it harder to lose weight - I started treatment 2 weeks ago and am already feeling much better, so I'm hoping to find losing weight a bit easier. 2 stone of this weight has been gained since having DS, which I feel ashamed about, but have been feeling exhausted and depressed (due mostly to the thyroid, it turns out) and have compensated by comfort eating. Confused

I really hope this will be a solution to 8 years of yo-yo dieting, which have taken me from a size 10 to a size 18 Confused A little nervous of the hunger, but I know it won't kill me.

Does anyone want to be my buddy, for a bit of mutual support?

Not doing too bad. Jelly pot at 11 for breakfast and then bowl of soup for lunch at 12.30. Dinner is a vegetarian ready meal for 300 calories so I think I will make it!

I'm on maternity leave simply so possibly have oversold my busy-ness! It's my daughter's last week at preschool and we've had a fundraising week so there's been more to do more than my normal routine of mumsnet and cbeebies I mean.

Today I had 400 cals at 5pm and then my last 100 at 6pm. Tbh I am now sitting around thinking a bit too much about being hungry. Next time I will try again to eke it out until later in the evening. How did everyone else get on?

I did dinner (300 calories) at 6.30. Am planning an early.night so less time to get through! Much easier than i thought though!

Am I too late to join in please?

Hello, please can I join you all? I've got about 2 stone of baby weight to lose. I'm still breastfeeding 8.5 month old dd but just can't shift the baby weight and tiredness is killing my willpower.
Survived first fast day today. Actually feeling in quite a bad mood now and have been advised by friends that it's probably some sort of carb crash. I'm hoping it gets better! Next fast day on Friday I think.
I haven't actually read the 5:2 book. Is the weight loss just because your weekly calorie count is reduced or is there something more clever than that?
Oh and I'm using MFP to count otherwise I'll get a bit obsessed with the numbers I think.
Hope you don't mind me tagging along on this journey.

Ooh, I have been on for 24 hours and look at all the new people! Hello! Smile I'm fasting today, not feeling a lot like it - I've done something to my lower back & struggling to walk, never mind look after a 24lb baby who isn't crawling yet. Bah. I'm so looking forward to getting this weight off, I'm sure random back injuries etc didn't happen as often when I was slim. Sad Have a good day today everyone!

Good luck today Spaniel! I had first fast day yesterday and I am two pounds lighter! Must be water even though I drunk pints of it yesterday, will be gutted if I weigh myself tomorrow and it comes back on - should I maybe just weigh myself once a week?

Goodness me londonmrs when I was breastfeeding I was starving all the time and just gave in to the hunger as I presumed it was a way of my body telling me I needed it to make the milk, be kind to yourself London.

Tes I have decided to weigh myself weekly. After my first fast day I lost 5lbs but when I weighed myself the following day I'd gained 3.5lbs if it again. It must be water weight, it's not possible to lose 5lbs of fat in one day! When I weighed myself after the first week (deliberately NOT the morning after a fast day), I'd lost 3lbs, which seems more realistic.

London I am on MFP as Spanielface if you want to add me? I could never have done it while breast feeding! That said, I gained 1.5 stone in the first 3 months after I had DS - anyone who says it helps you to lose weight is lying I think! I just lived on white carbs, basically!

Feels wired today as I thought I would be starving after yesterday's fast but not as hungry as normal.

It's weird isn't it? Even after my first FD, when I went to bed hungry, I was no more hungry than usual the following morning. I am on my 3rd FD today and it's going well. All I've had today is a cup of tea at breakfast, and an apple at 3 pm. I'm saving my calories for tea tonight. I've had a can of diet coke as well, I know it's full of crap but it's been so hot today and I really fancied one! At least they're calorie free I suppose.

Yes I dont drink fizzy drinks as a rule, but on a fast days they just seem to hit the spot. I love the Tesco fiery ginger beer, or their diet shandy.

Hello everyone that's joined the thread Smile

FD4 for me today. Had feta cheese and beetroot salad for lunch and a big tin of Baxters French Onion soup for dinner. I have 100 cals left and might have a piece of fruit later.

Fortunatelyy, I have to go out in an hour or so and won't be back until around 9. I'll then have a super early night and hopefully avoid any sabotage. Having said that I don't feel hungry at all.

Good luck to anyone else fasting today.

Tiger I've lost track but does that mean you're doing 2 days in a row? That sounds tough, good luck!

I'm fasting again tomorrow, eep. At least it's still hot. I can imagine it would be harder to stick to in the winter.

I'm fasting again today. Weighed myself today and I am three pounds down from Monday, v pleased! Also went for a run at 7.30am - too hot here to sleep - and had salad pot - 250 calories for meal.

Off to shops, no idea what to have later? Any ideas? How are you doing today Spaniel?

I fasted today as well (ignore me when I speculate about what date I might fast on next as it clearly bears no resemblance to reality). Wasn't too difficult. However I may have a long night ahead as I had a microwave meal with chicken in it and half way through realised the chicken tasted a bit funny... We have a dodgy fridge that doesn't always shut properly and I got concerned that the chicken had gone off... So I threw half away and made up the difference with shortbread biscuits. Not ideal. I am still coming in under 500 cals though!

simply I do like m&s fuller for longer meals and the calorie count is really easy. Xanthe clay does some recipes for 250 cal meals as well:

The courgette one is delicious.

I didn't fast yesterday in the end, I just wasn't in the "zone", so I'm doing it today instead. Those M&S meals look nice, I'll have to look next time I'm in!

Am on FD no 6, have gone a bit over on 655 but feel quite full so hopefully I won't need to tape my mouth shut in order to get through the evening!
