Hormonal contraception & anaemia advice please!

I suffer with extremely painful, heavy periods and bleed for 7-10 days. They’re getting worse as I get older (41) and I have to wear disposable maternity pants as pads do not contain it. As a result of this I am also anaemic and have been on prescribed iron tablets for 5+ years.
I have been sterilised, so contraception was a last resort. But my hair is falling out in handfuls, I’m always dizzy and suffer palpitations and restless legs from the anaemia. I reluctantly started Sylnd progesterone only pill 6 weeks ago. However it isn’t agreeing with me, I’m bleeding a lot, losing tmi white stretchy membranes, and my mood has hit rock bottom.
My GP today advised to stop the pill and await the mirena coil, for which I have been on the waiting list for 3:4 months now.
Those with the mirena coil have you felt that it affected your mood at all? I’m now worried about having low mood from that.

And if anyone else suffers with low iron, any tips? I’m on 2x ferrous fumerate per day. I take it with vitC, avoid caffeine etc.

That sounds awful OP. Have you tried transexamic acid? I wonder if you aren't absorbing the iron? Have you had any further investigations done? Do you know what your Hb and ferritin is?

I'd consider going to a family planning clinic. They are often connected to sexual health services but also run contraceptive and menopause clinics. I used to work in one years ago and you'd see either a specialist nurse or the gynaecologist and they have far more knowledge about contraceptives than my GP/Practice nurse. You'd need to ring your nearest to check what they offer.

Thank you for your reply. Yes I’ve been on tranexamic for years, it makes little to no difference.

Ive spoken with my local clinic they cannot fit a coil as they only fit for contraception whereas I’ve been sterilised it is for bleeding purposes.

I spoke to a private GP this afternoon who mentioned looking into endometrial ablation. This could well be another option for me.
