Nexplanon issues with DD & GP surgery

Need to rant before I completely lose it with the current state of women's healthcare...

DD has had implant for a few years without any issue. No breakthrough bleeding or anything during the whole time.

Until a few months ago, when she started with cramps and bleeding. Told her it sounds like she's taking after me with strong ovarian function, which means when the hormone levels start to drop, her ovaries essentially 'overpower' the implant. So it probably needs replacing before the official date (because not all women's bodies are the same and the 'lifetime' of the implant is based on averages).

She got in touch with the sexual health clinic where she had it done. But because there's a bit more than a year left before it's due to be renewed, and because she's bleeding (even though she's had zero history of bleeding with it historically) , they refused to do it saying she needs to be checked over from GP. Annoying but understandable.

So we rang up GP surgery and booked appt with nurse (told by receptionist its not a dr she needs to see but nurse). First appt was 2 months wait.

Morning of the appt, get a txt message from surgery CANCELLING THE APPT!! on the grounds of it's something the sexual health clinic should be doing. But if we insist surgery does it, we have a 6 month wait for minor surgery appointments.

Seriously what the actual hell?! To not even see her (never mind the risk of potential pregnancy if the implants stopped being effective in all this time!) DD has been in agony and now being told she had to wait potentially another 6 months...

I am sick to death of having to raise complaints after complaints with my GPs surgery just to get them to do their job.

Gah, it's Implanon not Nexplanon.

Sounds like you need to book two separate appointments. One appointment to assess for unscheduled bleeding and a different appointment for change of implant. There are lots of causes of bleeding, which may or may not be related to the implant.

You can take the combined pill alongside the implant to try and stop the bleeding. ( Implanon licence has now been extended to five years from three for contraceptive cover.) Yep, our clinics are rammed and we have ever decreasing staff. Out myself this year!

Which is what I thought we were doing... Clearly the receptionist failed to understand/ communicate the issue as to why we were needing to be seen at the GP surgery (even though I explained it to her).

I'm more pissed that 2 months have been wasted for absolutely nothing.

Think I'll ring the sexual health clinic tomorrow to ask their advice.

One of the problems is that coil and implant fitting in GP is now so poorly funded that many surgeries have reduced capacity or don’t offer it at all as they make zero money from it. So it makes more sense for a GP to do a usual GP clinic then a coil/implant clinic.
Hence the long waits on most places

I get the communication has been poor though. Just explaining the reason behind the wait
