Experience of deep implant removal

Hi,

I've been to the GP to get my implant removed as DH and I are ready to TTC. I can just about feel it under my skin (but not as much as I could feel my first one) but the GP said it was too deep to safely remove in the clinic and she thinks there's muscle on top of it.

I've been referred for an ultrasound to see how deep it is and she mentioned that I might need further referral to plastics to have it removed, which can take months.

Some NHS trusts seem to have special deep implant removal clinics but I don't think mine does.

Anyone have any experience of this? How was it removed and how long did it take?

TIA

Mine was quite deep due to weight gain. I have mine fitted at the sexual health clinic though and they have the scanners there. The nurses are also more skilled than GPs as they fit and remove daily. If it’s deep it will be just like a normal removal but it will last longer that’s all. You’ll be referred to a sexual health clinic.

Mine was completely enclosed by muscle/tendons. Was absolutely brutal getting it taken out, took well over an hour. I have skinny arms too and you could mostly see it so thought it would be nice and simple.

Thanks, I have put some weight on but only 3-4kg so I don't think that's caused it.
I'm not sure if it was a doctor or nurse at the appointment- it said General Medical Practitioner on my notes so I assumed doctor but she mentioned that she also runs clinics at the sexual health centre so I don't think I'll be referred there. She also said that locally options for removal of deep implants is limited.
Just worried I'm in for a long wait!

Any other experiences!?

Oh god I’m a few steps behind you but mine needs taking out as it’s 4 years overdue! It expired during Covid so I couldn’t get it removed for a good year or two and then I just kind of forgot about it. I’ve had some blood tests recently and the strap they put on my arm has made it ache where the implant is which has prompted me to make an appointment to get it removed. I’ve got a feeling it’s going to be a nightmare to get out with it being in for so long so I’m watching with interest!
