Experiences with periods after depo shot

Hi there!

Here is a bit about my story after coming off birth control but particular the depo!
I came off the depo provera a year ago in November 2024 (Last jab was the August) and went on to the combined pill, stopping it at the start of March ready to TTC. I bled straight away after the depo wore off and then on each break of the pill.

Since March when I came off all contraception, my cycles have been all over the place! So far I bled every 2 weeks for around 2 months, then had 3 cycles ranging from 31 to 40 days, now back to bleeding every 2 weeks!
I have had medium/heavy flow normal periods on the longer cycles, whereas on the past few shorter cycles it's been more spotting but then will come out a fair bit when I go for a wee.

I have had a full blood count and thyroid test done and a abdominal and transvaginal scan which all came back normal.

Has anyone else experienced similar? Or what have you experienced in general? I have another docs appointment coming up soon.

I was on the depo shot in my late 20's and it was brilliant, didn't have a period, didn't have moodswings or anything. Then a few years after I had my daughter I went on it again thinking it would be the same, it was horrendous, I bled every day for almost 6 months. They changed the dose after the first 3 months which made it worse. They put me on something to stop the bleeding in the end, I can't remember what it was. Ever since, my periods have been cripplingly painful and heavy (leaking through a super-tampon and pad within an hour or so!). I'm now 53 and menopausal so periods are getting a bit lighter and a bit less painful. Can't wait until they stop altogether!

I loved being on it too! But honestly don't think I'd go on it ever again after how it has messed my cycles up! I don't regret being on it but do wish I went on the pill in my late 20s. I'm glad you're coming out the other side of it now! The bleeding is awful.
