Desogestrel mini pill low mood

nee22 · 16/10/2025 08:38

Just wondering if anyone persisted with the mini pill, and saw their mood and libido improve. I think this is month 4 for me, and feeling low, consistently every day.

Hard to know whether to persist to see if things improve. I am postpartum 10 months, breastfeeding and there are other contributing factors to the low mood.

I would need to find other contraception, and this option seemed good as I tend to have heavier bleeding. Wondering if the hormonal coil would have similar impact on mood etc.
Any info or experience appreciated!

Im sorry you didn’t get any replies for this.
how are you doing now? Did you persist with the desogestrel?
I’ve just been prescribed this for severe PMS symptoms. Mainly mood related. I’d say PMDD but I don’t think they want to commit to that diagnosis. I’m yet to start taking it.

Hey, no I stopped and my mood did improve. I think it didn’t agree with me. Mind you I need to try something as I feel the same as you and have been wondering if I should start a ssri.
I read that progesterone can help pmdd but that also for some people it will make their symptoms worse, as some don’t tolerate the progesterone. I’m tracking my mood and my cycles at the moment to see if there’s a link

Thanks for replying. Sorry that it didn’t work out for you and you’re still having low mood. I’ve just taken my first one and im really hoping it will help. There seems to be a real mixed bag of results out there for it.
Maybe look into a ssri. I had counselling when I had postnatal depression and found that fairly useful. But honestly feel back in the pits some days.
I hope it all works out for you!

How's it going for you @LuckyStar511 ?

Considering the mini pill but worried about low moods too. Hormonal contraception has affected me like that before but I've never tried the mini pill
