Copper Coil Experience? Particularly while Breastfeeding

I just had my second 6 weeks ago and I’m curious how others have gotten on with the copper coil. In general, but I’m particularly curious if you’re breastfeeding, as this time around it’s working after quite a disastrous time with my first so I’m extremely keen to not do anything to interfere with that.

We’ve mostly done FAM until this point after I gave up on hormonal methods, but I’m keen on something a little more effective than that, as I’d like a few years in between baby #2 and 3 if we decide to have a third.

My mate had it fitted .... And got pregnant. I believe it's only 80% effect. So for every 100 women using it for a year, 20 will end up pregnant. Something to weigh up.

Hi OP. I had a copper coil fitted years ago, had it removed to TTC then reinserted when I was about six months PP so breastfed with it for quite a while. I loved it because I didn't get on well with hormones. It's more than 99% effective (NHS website) and, with breastfeeding, I don't think I experienced any of the usual side effects like heavier flow, cramps etc. that I'd experienced before getting pregnant. It was also painless getting it inserted after having given birth. I never had any issues with it and conceived the first month after having it removed both times. Obviously anecdotal but to not conceive the entire time I've had the coil in then conceive as soon as it's removed, I'd completely trust it as a reliable birth control (although nothing is 100% effective) and will get another once my second baby is born in a few weeks.
