Heavy bleeding on contraceptive injection

In a new relationship and decided to use the contraceptive injection for the first time.
I got it on 7th April and was on day 3 of my period. Period kind of stopped the next day.

Then 9 days later (16th April) I started light bleeding which has just got heavier and heavier and I’m still bleeding over 2 weeks later. Had phone call with doctor on 24th who prescribed tranexamic acid to help make it lighter which only slightly worked.
Then had a face to face appointment yesterday where she did an examination. She said to do a pregnancy test and if negative, continue the tranexamic acid for now and go back next week if still bleeding.
Pregnancy test was negative.

I just wondered if anyone else had experienced this? I knew to expect some light bleeding/spotting between periods but this is like a full on period and has been over 2 weeks!

I gave up after my second injection as I just spotted all the time. It also made me put on lots of weight

Thanks @dementedpixie can I ask what contraception you went for instead?

I have tried every hormone contraceptive (including injection) and they all make me bleed heavily every day. The only thing I can use now is the copper coil

I bled all the times and put on weight despite exercising every day. Does not suit me.

Yes - was on it for 3+ years in my 20s and all fine other than hair loss and a big of weight gain. Went on it again mid thirties after having kids and bled for 6 weeks straight and had awful continual migraines.

Not what you want to hear, sorry

Gosh thank you for the replies.
wish I’d got advice on here before I had it :(
is there anything I can take (over the counter or prescribed) that will make it stop?!
the GP just said come back next week if still bleeding

GP told me if I was still bleeding by the time I was due my second one they'd look to give me norethisterone but by then I wanted to get the hormones out not add more in!

I switched to the mini pill instead and then went on to the mirena coil a few years later
