Hi all

Juat looking for some advice. We have been Trying to conceive Baby 2 for 20 months we have been to the GP had initial test which came back normal and we have been referred to the local hospital for further investigations. Although the GP was reluctant to do this as he said they won't offer us any treatment as we have 3 year old. Which I understand but my question is will the nhs do further tests and recommend a treatment that we will then need to pay for? Or are we better off going private now and save ourselves the 27 week wait just to speak to a fertility doctor?
I'm just worried I'm 32 my husband is 34 and we have a 3 year old and I didn't want a gap this big nevermind however long tests and things are going to take.

Has anyone else had secondary infertility ? and what did you do about it ? And did you have anything done on the nhs

Also sending to love to everyone with fertility struggles because this is the worst kind of sadness and isolated I have ever felt. And I hope no one else has to experience this ❤️💔

Thanks

I’m sorry you’re struggling Op, it is so tough. I would recommend going privately as the wheels of the NHS turn slowly & as you know you’re not entitled to any real assistance anyway as you already have a child. Good luck x

Thank you for replying. That's what I'm leaning towards. I guess I just don't know what other tests the NHS will do and when I have looked up costs for tests privately.....it's very expensive which will obviously add up if we end up needing IVF or something

We have secondary infertility.
We got my bloods and DH sperm analysis done at the gp and then referred to nhs fertility clinic as DH did 2 samples that were abnormal.
We waited 2 months for our appointment, they did a high vaginal swab on me and then referred me for a pelvic ultrasound and a HSG which were all normal. They said we needed IVF and ICSI but it wouldn't be funded on the nhs which we knew. But at least all of our tests were done. We got referred in the July and our final test was done in December. So really quick.

Thank you for your reply. Sorry you have secondary infertility too.
What happened at your initial appointment at the hospital if you don't mind me asking?
Just the hospital we have been referred to have said its 27 weeks to speak to a fertility nurse on the phone....which seems a long time .
Thanks

At the first appointment they discussed my husbands results as he has low sperm count and said regardless of what my scans might show, we would need ivf purely based on my husbands sperm count. They did my vaginal swabs and then sent us on our way. The scan appointments came through the post.
