Husband has pain after vasectomy

My husband had a vasectomy about 2 weeks ago now and he said it was straight forward except from when the doctor was working on one side he had a sharp, lightening bolt type pain down his penis and testicle which the doctor said can happen. He said however he didn’t have anything when the other side was being done.
He is still very tender now and says he keeps getting this nerve type pain in his testicle and near his penis.

Has anyone else’s husband had this? Is his normal? I know it’s early days.

Pain after vasectomy is common but it’s usually bruise type pain. If it is nerve pain it can last a lot longer. Months or even in rare cases, permanently. I would advise he seek advice from his doctor

Its common to refer to this as " just the snip" but some men end up with permanent testicular pain as a result. I think this is only 1 or 2% but am not sure and obviously little consolation if you end up being one of them.

DH had pain for a while afterwards. Supportive underwear (fitted pants rather than shorts) really helped. It did take a couple of years to properly resolve itself, but the underwear made a massive difference.

This is my fear now! I was very apprehensive before the procedure as I didn’t want it to affect anything long term but everyone I spoke to who’s partners had had it done said it was fine- no major complication.

He said if it’s still bothering him in a few weeks he will go back and see what’s what but I’m praying it’s nothing long term.

My friends hubby struggled after his. He was in pain for quite a few months - I think it took them both by surprise. It did settle down though. Poor him, and poor you - hope he’s ok.

It’s way less a risk and long term complications than what women go through with contraception and childbirth.
its devastating for the 1-2% who end up with pain but that’s a very small %

Hi @SaraAppleseed , just wondering how your husband is now? My partner just had his done one month ago and is still experiencing pain, he is really upset about it and I am worried - sounds like you were in the same boat, I hope things are better now?
