Mirena coil- lack of libido?

Jill12312 · 15/03/2025 22:57

Hi, I had a mirena coil fitted a year ago. Ive 2 toddlers so pretty hectic but have noticed a gradual decrease in my libido over last 8 months or so. Wondering if it could be the coil. Also get some pelvic pain, one sided only. Has anyone experienced similiar as wondering if I should consider having it removed. Thanks!

I experienced a lack of libido with the Mirena too. My female GP laughed at me as it wasn’t one of the side affects written on the information so it had to be something else.
I had it removed about 18 months later and my sex drive reappeared almost instantly.

Same thing happened to me. Luckily my GP wasn’t dismissive and said she’s had other patients with the same issue so she advised on removal. I changed to the copper coil for a bit and felt better but my partner had a vasectomy so I’ve had the copper coil removed.

Thanks all, reassuring to hear others have felt the same!

Hasn't impacted me at all. I am a decade older than you too. Your libido may well come back with avengence in the next few years though with peri!

Yes! I’d had it for so long I never really realised until I had it removed and had some sort of awakening 😂😅

Hi OP, wondering if you ever got your Mirena removed? I’m having the same issues, libido has flatlined and is at a hard zero 🥲 (I’m 37 with two toddlers as well). It’s also really difficult to orgasm and even when I do it’s nowhere near as powerful as it used to be. Im booked to have mine removed in a couple of weeks but I’m so scared things will never go back to normal 😢 Any more positive stories about libido returning anyone?!

I'm much older and post menopause. I needed testosterone to reinstate my ability to orgasm and get libido back. It's back 😆🎉

It might be worth asking them to check your testosterone levels?

I had mine removed a week ago so will wait and see about the libido! Even just in these last few days I feel my periods are going to go back to 'normal' for me. Mine never stopped with the mirena, I'd never know what to expect each month and often feel like I was waiting for it to start.
