Mirena Coil - 2 years - period lasting 8 days

I’m 42 and I got the mirena coil two years ago and I still get a light period every 23 days or so but it’s never fully settled down, I’d still get random spotting.
This month though, I’m on day 8 of my period which isn’t normal for me. It’s very light but still not sure about it.
If I didn’t have the mirena coil I’d be more inclined to get it checked but I’ve always had weird bleeding since I got it.
Anyone else have a similar issue with long periods? Thanks!

I wouldn’t worry about one period, I’d wait and see what happens next time.

The hormone in the coil is a really low level and drops off over time. When I had one when younger I had no periods for 2 years then they returned, if I hadn't been having it removed anyway at that point I would have asked for a new one as I needed to stop my periods for other reasons.

As you are 42 you could be premenstrual and have fluctuating hormone levels. This in combination with the reduced level of hormone from the coil could cause variations in your cycle. You could see if it settles down again or if it doesn't you may want to ask for a new one or swap contraptions.

I had an awful time with it initially, nine months of very inconsistent bleeding and even the last year it’s kind of done its own thing but just this is the longest bleed I’ve had. Guess I’m just one of the unlucky ones!!

I realise this is an old thread but I’m scanning this board looking for others with same issues as me! I had mirena fitted in Dec 24. Bled constantly (although lightly) for 8 months. Then began bleeding every 20 ish days so only had a couple of weeks between each bleed. Doc told me to take 3 x months of pill. On month 2 and now spotting daily.
I’ve always had bleeding on progesterone only pills.
Lots of hip pain too.
Did yours settle or did you have it removed?

Hey, I’m sorry to hear that you’re going through that.
Mine did settle down but it took a long time. I would still have gotten a monthly bleed but it was very light and very predictable.
My doctor did make me get an internal ultrasound which I did feel better after because it took the worry and anxiety out of it and it just turned it into a nuisance which I was much better able to handle.
