Depo injection - no libido - anyone found a good alternative?

Hi all,

When I got the depo injection in Oct I was assured by the nurse that it works exactly how my normal pill (P only, desogestrel) works. When I'm on the pill, I'm 50/50 - one week I can't get off my partner, the next week I'm not in the mood. Since getting the injection in October though, my libido has literally been in the negatives, to the point where I didn't even want to touch my partner platonically. My injection is due to be renewed on the 21st and I can JUST feel my libido coming back - so I'm not keen to get it again.

Has anyone experienced similar, and found success elsewhere? I plan to hold off for a few months now to see what my cycle is like and see if natural planning (taking basal temp + monitoring cycle) helps, but will be using condoms. I have friends however that are 19 (I'm just 25) and they SWEAR by the implant, saying they have amazing libido. I'm slightly torn however as I feel this is just a perk of being 19!!

So my question is - has anyone suffered through non existent libido through the depo injection, and found success elsewhere? I'm horrendously terrified of IUDs as I have friends that have had horror stories - inc one where the IUD got embedded in the skin!!

I've had the Mirena for years and love it. No impact (for me) on Libido and no periods. Hence I was ok re DH not having a vasectomy. Yes having it changed at 5 years is a pain but went well on two occasions
