ewcm and mirena coil

Hi, I had my mirena fitted just over a month ago. Prior to this i was getting super heavy bleeding on my period plus additional, less heavy bleeding mid cycle. This seems to have settled down now but for the first time in ages I’ve noticed egg white cervical mucous today (haven’t noticed in ages due to the mid cycle bleeding). Does this mean I’m ovulating and, if so, does it mean i can’t rely on the coil as contraception? I thought hormonal contraception stopped you ovulating, but now i’m not so sure.
Thanks in advance and I hope this isn’t a stupid question and the type of thing I should know already.

With the mirena you can still ovulate. It thickens cervical mucus and reduces the thickness of the uterine lining preventing a fertilised egg implanting and in some people prevents the realise of an egg. I still had periods albeit lighter ones with mine so it didn't stop ovulation for me.

thank you that’s good to hear. the contraceptive effect is a secondary bonus and not the reason i had it fitted but this is added reassurance until vasectomy gets sorted.

i knew periods were a possibility with mirena but had it in my head they would be like the bleeding you get on the pill i.e not a proper period. But now i think about it that doesn’t make sense because you’re not having a few days break from the mirena every month. This is reassuring me even more that it’s doing what it should do.

As an aside, apart from many days of lighter period at the beginning I’m starting to think the mirena may be the answer to my awful periods and can’t quite believe it!
