Double dose Cerazette

I've been on desogestrel (Cerazette) for 2 and a half months now and have had spotting pretty much the entire time. Having read online that many people have success stopping the bleeding taking a double dose, I started doing the same a week ago, but I'm still bleeding 😭 would be so grateful if anyone taking a double dose could please tell me how long the bleeding took to stop 🙏

I was literally just looking at the same thing as had heard this was a thing for constant bleeding/spotting. I've been on Cerazette for 2 months and it has been relentless. Best contraception ever as can't have sex!!
I did speak to my local clinic and they suggested switching to Noriday (she said the double dose was not something recommended) so now I'm contemplating if I should just switch for now.

Oh interesting. Maybe I should try a switch to Noriday... did she say that bleeding is less likely on it?

Yes. She said that it is highly likely that it would help the bleeding. The only thing with Noriday is that you have to take it within a narrower window than Cerazette. It's a 3 hour window from last pill rather than a 12 hour window on the Cerazette. For me it makes no difference but some may struggle with that.

It's so so hard to know what to do, isn't it? As the bleeding Cerazette could settle down in a few weeks...but it also could just continue to bleed for months. I hate being a woman at times 🤦🏼‍♀️

Tell me about it, it's such a pain. I don't want to rock the boat if the bleeding from Cerazette is going to settle. But it might never settle! In which case I'd rather try another pill now. It's crazy as i was previously on Cerazette for 13 years and never bled once! God knows why I don't react to it the same anymore (maybe due to having had a baby). I've noticed that Noriday contains Norithisterone, which is the drug they use to delay periods, so that makes me feel hopeful. Did she say if breakthrough bleeding is a thing on Noriday?

I was on cerazette for years with no bleeding and no periods at all (amazing!), but after having DC, the bleeding was constant. GP said this is common, no one knows why.

I gave up with it, send DH for vasectomy instead

GatoGato · 10/05/2024 13:28

Sorry guys, but I bleed almost constantly on Noriday. I took a double dose for a month on recommendation of my GP, although she stressed this was off licence. It made no difference. I'm giving up the pill completely which is a shame because for mood/weight/pmt/pain I thought the Pop was fab! 😞

Ladymayflower · 10/05/2024 13:28

Completely hear you here! I was fine before on Cerazette (pre children) and even without pills, I had light short periods. Not months on end 🤦🏼‍♀️

It really is a "how long is a piece of string" with the bleeding and whether it may settle on Cerazette. I have a new beau in my life as well (only came on the pill to avoid any surprises) and it has completely messed with our intimacy 🙄 He is super patient and lovely about it (of course)...I am not!!

She didn't specifically say but just emphasized when I asked that it is highly likely it would help the constant bleeding.

I think I will switch today. I actually get so irritated everytime I go to the loo!

I'm on 2 cerazette daily, it took about 4 weeks for the bleeding to start to stop once I doubled, by 6 weeks I stopped bleeding completely, before that I'd been 3 months single dose and bleed every day.

Christmashope19 · 10/05/2024 14:07

When I first went on Cerazette I bled off and on for around 3 months
i have been sterilised so was taking it purely for my heavy periods, I don’t take a break at all take them every day
haven’t had a period in 8 years it’s been brilliant!

RagzRebooted · 10/05/2024 14:58

The new POP Slynd (drosperinone) may work, it has a 4 day break for a scheduled bleed, like the combined pill, so that it reduces unscheduled bleeding. Still has a long window to take it in and just as effective. It's also a different type of progesterone which some tolerate better.

Once you doubled the dose, did the bleeding start to reduce straight away? Did it get heavier at all?! I've had 8 days of double dose and the bleeding is getting worse!!
