Emergency contraception IUD and MAP

Has anyone used both the MAP and had an emergency IUD inserted? Not wanting to do nothing just now but think I may have already ovulated so questioning the efficiency of the MAP. Thinking of getting IUD as ‘belt and braces’ - had been contemplating getting one anyway but no where will be able to do it for a couple of days - Is there any reason they wouldn’t let me? Has anyone ever had any experience of it? Surely is should realistically be MUCH less worried of getting the iud inserted within 5 days. Slightly panicking!

You need to crack on and get map, don’t wait to see if you can get an iud appointment. There is no reason why you can’t do both. I know the iud is always portrayed as first line Emergency contraception but I have no idea how easy emergency fittings are to obtain. So get the map first and ask at the pharmacy about the emergency iud service, they should know about this. But don’t let them not give you the map on the basis you are getting an iud.

@Rumplestiltz completely agree. I actually can’t understand why no sexual health services are open at the weekend. I’m sure so many people need them.

I can’t think of a reason I can’t have both but I spoke to nhs24 who weren’t sure confusingly.
