Implant- does it settle down?

Just looking to hear other women’s experiences to help me decide if the implant is worth sticking with. I should add that for health reasons I can only have progesterone only contraceptives. I have attempted twice having a coil fitted and passed out both times (wimp) so I’m left with either implant or depo injections. Obviously I’m aware condoms and vasectomies exist but for reasons irrelevant to my question, they are not an option.

I went on the implant at the end of October when a nurse advised it over the depo injections. Obviously I’m aware it can mess up periods etc but I’m told it settles down eventually.

I had no period in November or December but then in early January I had a 31 day period. Nothing for a month and I’ve now been bleeding again since march 8th. Not heavy or painful but obviously inconvenient!

has anyone had symptoms like this and gone on to have it settle down? I’m not bothered about having periods but I don’t want constant lengthy ones.

I’m coming up to 6 months now and (touchwood) it does seem to have calmed right down. I was similar with a nearly three week bleed and stop/start spotting for a month.

Hi,

From my experience with it, it settled down and i completely stopped having periods which was very convenient. I had it removed after 12 months as I suffered horribly with the side effects (weight gain, vaginitis, mood swings, sleep issues, dizziness, pain). But if you don't have any unwanted side effects it's worth pursuing with because your cycles should settle to a predictable routine between 6-12 months.

I had 3 implants, first two id have a period twice a year , on the last one I bled for 6 weeks with a 3 week break for 2 years until i finally took it out. My Dr said it's a toss up every time you get it and I was just lucky the first 2 times.

Had to have mine removed after about 8 months, the spotting/bleeding never stopped and I felt weepy and exhausted all the time. I take the progesterone only pill now, no bleeding in over three years and minimal side effects.

Chaos for the first few months, but stuck it out and then had no bleeding for the next 3 years when it was time to be removed. Not a spot.
Had no hormonal side effects etc - I was definitely one of the lucky crew.

It was a while ago but I had mine in for about a year and the bleeding was awful. I was given tranexamic acid which stopped it, but bled again once the TA was finished. I asked for it out in the end.
