How the hell do I feel coil strings?!

I posted before about having the mirena interested last week and so far all good, I thought I'd check for the strings for the first time today but I feel like i can't even reach my cervix! I can't feel anything at all! Do I just have short fingers?!

I have this issue - perfectly normal length fingers haha! The advice is to check the strings just after you’ve had a period which is when your cervix tends to sit a bit lower down. I struggle to feel mine, and often have to check the next day. I honestly thought it would be easier and it has caused me stress on several occasions!

I had mine put in last year and was told that there were no strings. I've not had one before, so didn't question it. Did the person who did yours say anything about the strings?

Me too! I just want to know my coil hasn't gone missing somewhere so I can relax 😂

They told you there were no strings? ?? I'd check that as they need something to get it out.

OP it's common not to feel them especially if they've cut them quite short

I went to the drs in a panic once and they looked and said I'd no chance of feeling it due to my anatomy and the lengths of the string left

emmylousings · 12/03/2024 20:24

Had coils for ages, never felt the strings.

Top tip from me, don't try feeling for your strings when you've been chopping chillis

Still makes me wince

Yes, I'm pretty sure, but can't remember the reason why. It was inserted at a sexual health clinic by an experienced doctor. I might ring up and ask about removal.

toomuchfaster · 12/03/2024 20:33

My GP left the strings long so they curl up and you can't feel them. She said if cut short they can spike a penis!!!
I've had 2 and never felt the strings but I can feel it's there when we have sex.

I can only feel my strings if I squat...😅

Mine has been in for 3 years so far and I've never checked it as often as I should...thanks for the reminder!

DramaAlpaca · 12/03/2024 20:59

I'm on my second Mirena and I've never been able to feel the strings no matter how much I rummage. My cervix is in an awkward position, so my gynaecologist tells me Confused I've stopped bothering to try to find them now as I use it for HRT not contraception.

I have never squatted so low as I have looking for my bloody cervix these past few days 😅

Seems I was ovulating so my cervix was high up but lower today! Never knew they moved so much haha!
