Desogestorel

I've been put on desogestorel. I'm 37 and have been having problems with my periods for ages and am now anaemic, have to get up 2 times a night on the first days of my period, changing super plus extra tampons every 2 hours and massive clots that take loads of bleach to flush from the toilet.

The thought behind this is that it should eventually either lighten my periods or hopefully stop them altogether.

What's everyone's experiences on this?

Thank you

Was on desogestrel 75mg for over 5 years. After the first 6 months, my periods stopped completely (not to say for those 6 months there was heavy bleeding, it was significantly less than my normal). Every so often (about once a year), I would get a brown wipe away, clear out as I called it. Never had fresh blood again, didn't necessarily notice any changes to weight (although as with all contraceptives, it says I can affect weight). Mental health wise I found it easier not to have the mega hormones of a period every month.

Thank you. I'm hoping I'll end up with no periods at all. I can't take the pain, heaviness and feeling ill all the time much more

I’ve taken it for years. Initially it was fine and regulated my cycles. For the last 2 years I’ve just been on a constant period. I’ve recently stopped and feel so much better.

I'm now 3 weeks into taking it. No monthly mood swings like I would have usually had but last few days I've had brown snotty discharge but only on wiping, doesn't show on underwear.

I know it's early days but I can put up with that a few days each month.

I hope I'm in the group of women who have no bleeding. The no condoms is also a bonus but after 20 years of using them other than when ttc it is odd trusting I won't get pregnant!

I was on it for about a year after the birth of DC2. I hated it. My (once clockwork) periods were all over the place. I eventually stopped it as I was bleeding more than I wasn’t. Would never go back on it again!

I have been taking this since 2020 for inflammation ( caused by long COVID) and heavy bleeding plus being a total personality change with the period.
At first it eased the bleeding and symptoms but not enough so I've been taking 2 a day for about 3 years.
Life changing.
I'm 52 now my life was ruled by bleeding and vile mood swings etc. all gone.
I'm dreading either not being able to take them or what happens next.
I have got control of my life for the first time since I was 11.
Quite a bit of weight gain over 3 .5 years changed shape - weight round shoulders and middle previously hour glass shape now more Mrs Bird from Paddington. But that could equally be less exercise because of long COVID.
Good luck hope it works for you.
