6 weeks ( ish) and no fetal pole

Hey I would really appreciate some advice here. I went to the early pregnancy unit this morning as I was having pains and the scan showed a sack and a yolk sack but no fetal pole. Shouldn't I have one showing by now? The sonographer dated me 5 weeks plus and said they weren't worried but I got a heartbeat at 6+4 last time.

Any advice or a stories welcomed! Thanks

Hi, I’m in the same situation as you.

went to the early pregnancy unit on Wednesday due to bleeding. Had a scan and they measured the sac at around 6 weeks. I would have been 5 weeks 6 days but there was no baby or heartbeat.

They said this can be normal as they wouldn’t usually expect to see a baby until at least 6 weeks.

I feel worried too but just hoping that we will see a fetal pole at our next scan.

When are you going back for another scan?

@Welshyb Yes they found a yolk sac and gestational sack, just no embryo. Already had an early scan booked for tomorrow ( I will be 6 weeks 2 days) so will still go to that but got a follow up appointment at the hospital on Thursday

Good luck tomorrow I hope the scan goes ok - could you be mistaken by your dates?

I wonder whether my dates are out - this babe was concieverd naturally but my last child was ivf so the dates were far more precise.

It went really well. We saw baby and a heartbeat!

We we’re just too early by a few days on Wednesday.

Ah that's amazing congrats!!! Out of interest did they see a fetal pole in your scan last week? Or just a gestational and yolk sack? Really hope we have the same outcome as you!!!

@Welshyb thank you, no fetal pole on Wednesday. Only saw a gestational and yolk sac, but it was completely empty. Today there was a little fetal pole and a strong heartbeat x

That's incredible congratulations!!! I've moved my private scan to next Sunday now so I've got another week to wait so fingers crossed!

We have a heartbeat too and measuring right on track! Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy :)
