I’m in my forties and haven’t had to think about contraception for over a decade (!) due to a mix of fertility issues and falling pregnant accidentally not being unwelcome.
now I’m in the midst of being diagnosed with a chronic condition that has loads of treatment options but the consultant has warned me that I will need to tick the box for reliable contraception for some treatment options. Fine.
BUT, I don’t know what would suit me. I’m pretty convinced the pill in my 20’s affected my MH, this was compounded by when I was pregnant I was the angriest person in the world. I’m self diagnosed sensitive to hormones
Now I’m in my 40’s it looks like the progestogen only pill might be a consideration but I have reservations due to a family history of breast cancer. No periods at all is a definite plus point though.
I like the idea of the copper coil, but I’ve always had really heavy periods along with regular iron deficiencies so the side effects from that sound really off putting but being able to forget about it (if I’m not bleeding ridiculously) is a plus point. It’s in and doing its thing. I’m not keen on hormonal coils for the breast cancer reservations.
I can’t seem to come to a decision so any input would be welcome.
