Got a mirena fitted today so following.

I didn't feel a thing when it was put in though so that's nothing to worry about.

Beachhutnut · 22/06/2023 17:46

Coil every time. Yes it's a pain while bleeding settles but then can forget about it( and periods) for the next 4-5 years.

Frenchfancy · 22/06/2023 18:11

I've had a mirena coil for 20 years (not the same one!). Had it taken out after 5 to have DD3 the got one put back in again.

Periods are a very vague memory.

violetcuriosity · 22/06/2023 18:21

How long did it take for the bleeding to regulate/stop? This is my main worry.

Trinity69 · 22/06/2023 18:24

First time I had a Mirena, no periods. Second time, the random odd bleed here and there but never regular so always a surprise. Yay.
Recently had my third fitted and so far no bleeds but only time will tell.

Please do ensure an experienced fitter though. The second one I had I wasn’t sure she knew what she was doing and was being supervised. When it needed changing the strings were barely 1cm long and removal was horrendous.

ConfusionIsNothingNew · 22/06/2023 18:31

Mirena fan here too, 6 months or so away from
getting my third. A few weeks of spotting followed by years of no periods, bliss!

Definitely agree with getting an experienced fitter if you can, I had a horrendous experience with my
local family planning clinic, a slightly better one with a hospital gynae and a totally painless fitting with a gynaecologist who specialised in colposcopy investigations so was well versed in such things. I'll definitely be returning to him when it's time for my next one!

Beachhutnut · 22/06/2023 18:42

I had 3 months of on off bleeding with the first. Not going to lie it was a pain but worth it. Now on number 2. So far a month bleeding but looks like it's tailing off 🤞🤞

Icedblondelatte · 22/06/2023 18:57

After having two occasions of 2/3 days with sickness whilst on the pill and worrying about it not being effective I finally got a coil fitted. So glad I did. No more worrying, very light bleeding one or two days a month for the first year and now barely at all. Wasn't completely painless having it put in but nothing that I couldn't cope with and more like discomfort really and it only last a minute. Will definitely get another one.

Riverbananacarrot · 22/06/2023 19:02

Can I ask how everyone found mood swings/ mental health on the coil?
Just had bar taken out for awful low moods and ups and downs. Was pretty awful.

Beachhutnut · 22/06/2023 19:36

Zero impact on moods/ weight/ sex drive for me

Loafbeginsat60 · 22/06/2023 20:11

I love my coil. Haven't had a period since I got it in 2020

No mood swings or any other changes

I did not do well on the pill however - felt like I was seriously depressed

Blossom4538 · 23/06/2023 16:59

Thank you everyone!

Interesting to read this. I recently got a prescription for the pill but I'm too nervous to take it as I'm paranoid about putting on weight. (I'm also prone to anxiety and not sleeping well) My periods have been horrendous for 2-3 years and I was originally prescribed the coil but I asked about the pill....now wondering if that was the right decision....
