20 day period on IUD

I had the Mirena coil fitted about a month ago. I've had a couple of these; one back in 2019 (which I removed in 2021 to try for a baby). I had one placed back in May with my GPs after I had my daughter this year. It perforated, so had surgery to remove it.

I figured I was just unlucky so I'll try again, but this time at a sexual health clinic. Since the first one worked wonderfully and I had no issues.

This is my first period since it was inserted. I'm now on DAY 20 of this period! Longest I've ever had. It's still heavy, not really easing off at any point. I'm feeling very weak, been rather ill and even faint at times. I brought this up with the SHC, she literally giggled and said "that's normal". That it'll take time for my cycle to adjust.

Seriously? 20 days and no sign of it slowing? She told me to come back in 3 MONTHS if it's still going. I can barely walk my son to school and back without feeling very weak and sick.

Has anyone else had this experience? How long did it take to stop? Or do I have to suffer 3 months of period before they take me seriously?

Yep. I kept getting told to give it ‘a few more months to settle down’ at one month I was told wait for 3 months, at 3 months I was told to give it 6 months, at 6 it was ‘it should settle down soon’. By 8 months I was begging to get it removed but still had to wait nearly 5 weeks for an appointment.

There we’re days it slowed to spotting but I basically bled the whole time I had it it, but then I did with POP too. I was permanently on Ferrous fumerate because my ferritin was so low.

I have the same with the implant I was still bleeding for six months in the end. I just went back and had it taken out. Literally I was on for like 20 days off for 3 back on again it was a nightmare it was so heavy I had to use maternity pads x

Damn, sounds like I'm going through the same. So weird my 1st one worked so well (won't count the 2nd one because the GP pierced it through my womb...) but this 3rd one has the opposite affect. Thought because it's the same product it'll be fine. Guess my body has changed way more than just recovering from my pregnancy.

Thanks both, I'll just tell them to remove it if I get no joy after 3 months. Tired of being messed around now. Took them 2 weeks to take me seriously when I was in agony with the perforated one. Course no apology when they realised I wasn't "over exaggerating" the pain...
