I am 61 and have had the mirena coil in for 15 years . I know i don't need it now etc but my question is. Is it doing me any harm while it is still in . I know I should go and get it removed but dread the thought of it so just wondered if there are any dangers to me still having it

Hi there.. I started searching for the same answers.. went for a smear last year and was told I needed to speak to the specialist GP.. eventually told I could keep Mirena for a few more years as sailed through Menopause - I’m 57 - anyway told I’ve had it 12 years all good to keep in!

Now just started HRT and started on tablet Utrogestan and Sandrena.. still got the Mirena.. no breakthrough bleeding..the miracle Mirena working it’s magic.. God knows but who to ask?

I would keep Mirena in if you have no problems just forget about it x
