DH getting the snip

I've been on hormonal contraception since I was 15. We've had 2 kids and don't want any more.

We've decided it's time for me to come off the hormones and for him to get the snip.

He's worried because he's heard of men with prolonged pain. Has anyone else's DH struggled? What's the recovery like in general?

DH had his a year ago. All fine and it’s great to be free of the worry of unwanted pregnancies.

My dh had it done it October, he said there was a bit of pain when they injected the anaesthetic in, but nothing major, just like a scratch. Didn't feel anything while having it done. He was fine after did the next day off work just in case but he was fine. It makes it a lot easier as I can now come off contraception (he's only just got all clear) and we have have sex knowing it won't result in anymore babies

My DH has had a vasectomy after we had a surprise third!

he went back to work the same day!

I believe there is a slight risk of chronic unexplained groin pain post vasectomy which might be what he has googled. I suspect compared to the evidenced risks of eg DVT with the pill etc it’s very small.

Thank you! Good to hear success stories. He seems to think he'll be laid out off work for days whereas I think he'll be a bit sore but fine. I'll grab some extra paracetamol in the shop!

My DP had it done last year. The procedure was painful and he had some pain and an infection for a couple of weeks afterwards.
Once the infection healed and the swelling went down he had no more issues.

He did a couple of weeks light duties at work due to his type of job but unless the job is overly strenuous there's no need for this usually.

He wished he'd not driven home afterwards though because he was in a lot of pain (they tell you not to). Other than that he just took painkillers and did the usual stuff. I do remember him saying bending down was painful and sitting was uncomfortable for a while.
