Mini pill and bleeding

I've been on cerelle minipill now for 2 months since the birth of DC3 and the bleeding has been relentless. I expected some breakthrough bleeding while my body adjusted but I've bled almost constantly for the last 2 months, I think I've had around 8-10 days without bleeding at most.

As I say I expected some breakthrough bleeding but this is heavy, like the peak of a period, not spotting and I'm just getting so fed up of it.

I know it can take a few months for your body to regulate and I'm trying to stick it out for another month to see if this happens but I just wanted any advice / personal experience if anyone else had the same?

Worth noting I was on this same pill before conceiving DC3 and never had any issues.

I bled constantly on the mini pill, I gave it nearly a year, but it didn't stop. DD bled on the implant as well, which is progesterone only. It's pretty common, and when I looked at the research, nobody really seemed sure why it happens. It's probably worth giving it a little bit longer to see if it settles down if you were okay on it before as you say, or try a different brand.

This happened to me after the birth of my DC 3 years ago. What nobody told me at the time is that apparently Cerelle is notorious for erratic bleeding after birth… I was only told when I spoke to GP after 6 months of bleeding on and off.

I came off it and switched pill for around 4 months and when my bleeding regulated in to a cycle I went back to Cerelle and have had no issues since.

Thank you both! I may stick it out another month as that will then be 3 months, the time period that most websites state 'breakthrough' bleeding can occur on cerelle. I can't remember having any issues with it before but then I was swapped from a normal pill over to cerelle as opposed to taking it after birth. I naively assumed I would be fine again now as I had no issues previously.

Unfortunately I won't be able to go on the pill as I suffer with migraines which is why they sapped me to the mini pill in the first place, also not keen on the idea of a coil.

I'm in two minds to stop taking it all together and rely on condoms as the bleeding is really getting me down now.

Hey! I see this was a year ago but how did you get on in the end?? I’ve been going through the same thing - after having my son in sept 22 I went back on the mini pill in November and had on/off bleeding till July 23 when I eventually gave up. Took a 4 month break to “get back to normal” and have just re-started a month ago but so far it’s no better. Thinking of giving it another few months but not very hopeful :(

Hello. I gave up after 3 months because it hadn't improved. I went back on the mini pill in September and initially I had no issues but I'm currently bleeding again after only have a period 11 days ago so it looks like it may have started again.

It's a lose lose really as most contraception can cause bleeding etc so I'm unsure if it's worth trying something else.

Oh no sorry to hear that! It’s rubbish isn’t it :( the mini pill worked perfectly for me for 10 years before having a baby so I just don’t understand why it won’t work now! Maybe I could try the combined pill if not but I’m already 34 so not sure if it’s worth it. Let me know if you figure anything out!

@Smh27 it's been a while and I hope you've managed to sort your contraception / bleeding out.

I decided to get a copper coil fitted in the end and it has honestly been the best decision. No irregular bleeding and no hormones!

Sorry jumping on this post a little late but wanted to just ask what your breakthrough bleeding was like?

I had DS2 in July and restarted cerelle now just under 3 weeks ago, but since yesterday been having bleeding, but not extremely heavy and today it's like slippery with blood if that makes sense? I remember when I first started cerelle like 7 years ago I bled at at very start for a few weeks, I dont remember with DS1 what happened when I restarted it! I'm pretty sure it's a breakthrough bleed but it's just on and off 🤦‍♀️ I do also have a healing episiotomy wound so initially thought that was where the blood came from but this is heavier and when I look at the wound it doesn't look angry enough to have been recently bleeding🤦‍♀️ sometimes I hate being a woman 🤣
