Hello everyone,

I posted this a while ago but didn't get any responses so I'm trying again, as it's still on my mind!

Wondering if anyone can share any experiences of staying away from hormonal contraceptives to prevent pregnancy? My husband and I had a baby this year and I have been back on the pill since, but it is playing havoc with my migraines (I have always suffered) and I am tired of putting hormones into my body as it generally makes me feel pretty crap. I didn't realise quite how much I hated it until I came off it, and then again how rubbish I've felt since I went back on it.

While we were TTC I was happy tracking my BBT and cervical mucus, and using ovulation sticks - my cycle is regular and predictable. We were thinking of going back to this and using fertility awareness to keep track of my cycle, and during those times of high or medium fertility or when slightly unsure, we would still use condoms.

Can anyone share their own stories of how this worked out for them? Oh and I should clarify, we want to start trying for another baby either next year or the year after so the snip is not an option yet!

What about condoms? Sounds like you’ll only need them for a year or so and less chance of a pregnancy.

@pjani yeah we would use condoms, I'm just a bit wary of being totally reliant on them as I've never had to be, having always been on the pill or something. So thought it might be a good idea to track my cycle too for extra peace of mind. Thinking another year maybe before we start trying again so!

My lovely son is the result of natural family planning. Delighted he's here but wouldn't recommend temping which is what we used. To be fair, it worked for 6 months or so... we wouldn't have used it if we weren't prepared to live with a little surprise.

@PumperQuarter well exactly we are sort of in the same mindset to be honest. Really would prefer if it didn't happen too quickly but if it did it wouldn't be a complete catastrophe or anything like that, just wouldn't be ideal timing! Hopefully it'll be okay for six months to a year as it was for you, before we are ready to actively try again.
