Hi

I have 2 kids under 2 years old. I am considering to get the implant fitted. I am hoping to get some opinions on how did you find it, do you like it? Or not?

Please let me know your experience.

I've just had it fitted this week but so far so good. Fitted in 10 mins, left with a bit of a bruise and a tiny incision that she assured me would heal fast. So far no symptoms. I shall keep you updated!

Creepymanonagoatfarm · 24/08/2022 22:39

Made me feel low.

23Elfie · 24/08/2022 22:45

Mine has been in just over a year. Only had 2 very light periods if you can even call them that in that time.
I had flu like symptoms for a day when it was put in that knocked me for six which was so strange but is listed as a side effect!
Also as a poster said above it can effect your mood - the two light periods I've had I've been VERY sad feeling for a couple of days leading up to it but it blew over as quick as it came.
Other than that I've been fine.

Hello, I've had mine fitted for nearly 3 years (Dec).

I have had no periods in that time. Maybe some light spotting once.

On the downside, when I first had it put in, my mental health took a big dip. It took about 4-6 weeks to resolve.

That was just me though and it wouldn't deter me from having again.

aryanna · 25/08/2022 20:03

I had one in for 4 years (due to covid) and have had my second one in for 5 months. I like it, haven't really had any side effects.
However I now only get my period every other month and bleed for around 2 weeks, a lot lighter than I used to.

PilchardsonToast · 25/08/2022 21:23

I had one a few years ago but I couldn't get on with it..I had light bleeding constantly for the six months I had it until I persuaded them to remove it!

Hi,

Thank you for your own opinion and experience you've had on the implant.

Did it hurt when they put the implant in?

It definitely wasn't painless, but no worse than having a cannula in your arm...it felt like that

OurChristmasMiracle · 29/08/2022 21:01

I loved mine tbh and although currently expecting as soon as possible after birth I will be having another one fitted. I very rarely bleed on the implant and it does improve the symptoms of my endometriosis so it’s a win for me.

having my last one put it I felt a little bit of pressure and was slightly bruised but it was over quickly.

drkpl · 29/08/2022 21:01

It hurt when I had the implant. That’s because the nurse decided to use numbing spray and not real anaesthetic. I had tears of pain running down my face. I asked for anaesthetic when having it removed and it was fine- just make sure they do their job properly!

I had it removed after 2.5 years as it ruined my libido. Other than that, it was great.

SalviaOfficinalis · 29/08/2022 21:07

It didn’t agree with me at all - I bled constantly until I was prescribed the pill to take as well (with implant still in) for 3 months to sort it out. Still had daily light bleeding and then back to heavy bleeding once I stopped taking the pill.

So I got the implant removed. I realised after that I’d been feeling anxious/stressed constantly. I hadn’t realised it was the implant but I felt a million times better as soon as it came out.

MsFrog · 29/08/2022 21:15

Didn't really hurt when it went in, they numb you up so just the sting of the needle and a bit of a bruise after. For me it's been great - first time I bled on and off for 6 months (very light) then no more periods for the next 2.5 years. Got that one removed and new one put in, no period for 3 more years!

I've just had it in again about 4 months ago after having my kids, and I've had very light bleeding on occasion, but it's already getting less frequent. It's actually helped my moods, as I got really bad PMS after my second, and the implant has sorted all that out.

Minniemouse85 · 29/08/2022 21:40

I had my first one in 2019, first year no periods at all then gradually I started to get random bleeds, no warning but lasted a few days then nothing for months. Had new one fitted in may this year and I’ve bled most of the past 3 months so I will arrange to have it removed in the next few weeks. Procedure both times was quick and painless. Really gutted it’s not suited me this time. Love not having to remember to take the pill.

Has anyone got pregnant with the implant?

I have rang my GP who have discontinued the implant. I was given the umbrella nhs number to call but the waiting time is a few months.

I had it and bled constantly. My housemate had it and didn't have a period for 3 years.

UserError012345 · 02/09/2022 06:13

Why have they discontinued?

SABDELLAHI · 05/09/2022 22:39

The nurse and doctor who used to do the procedure are no longer working at the GP. Most of the patients are on the long waiting list and have advised us to call the umbrella nhs services to find a local GP or clinic.
