Coil better than mini pill, to stop bleeding???

Hi all, hope you can help. I'm wondering whether to try the Mirena coil.

I've been on the mini pill for 9-10 months. The first 5 months I had a lot of irregular spotting and bleeding - it was really annoying as it went on for weeks each time. But I know it can take a while for the body to adapt.

Then I had 3 months of no bleeding at all, which was great!!!

BUT now I've just bled continuously for 2 weeks. It started a couple of days after sex - and I also missed a pill around the same time.

Is this normal, do you think? All the online advice seems to say that breakthrough bleeding should only last 7 days, but mine is always longer. This time it was spotting for about 13 days and now it's increased to be more like a proper period. Seems extreme for just missing one pill. It's annoying as I've only forgotten twice, in nearly 10 months!

I don't want more children (I'm 40 and have three), so I want to minimise my periods. I had heavy/troublesome periods for a while after birth last year (same happened after previous pregnancy). The GP arranged an ultrasound which was all clear and my latest smear (2 years ago) was okay too - so I feel like I've covered most bases.

I also may have cervical ectropion (mentioned by GP during smear a few years ago - means I bleed more easily when there's friction - e.g. sex or smears), which complicates matters. But I don't think that would cause a 2-week bleed.

The bleeding on the mini pill is lighter than my normal periods, which is an upside - I just wish it didn't go on so long.

I wonder if the coil would be a better option for me? Has anyone else tried both?

I had continuous bleeding -only around 10 days of not spotting or bleeding-the whole year I had the Mirena coil in. It was hell try to get them to remove it too!

‘just give it a bit longer to settle, it needs to be at least 3-4 months…6 months would be best….wait another 6 weeks….just give it a bit more time….we don’t have any appointments now for 8 weeks’ !!!
It also contributed to nearly 2 stone weight gain in that time with nothing changing diet/activity wise. Thankfully all now lost again but I regret ever having it fitted.

I didn't try mini pill until around 5/6 years later when I was already having period problems. That was horrendous too but it was then discovered I had fibroids and endometriosis so that’s probably why.
