Best contraception after pregnancy?

I'm undecided on the best type of contraception to use after pregnancy. I had a C-section so shouldn't get pregnant straight away but I'm also 41 so couldn't leave it too long if I wanted another child (probably unlikely anyway as I only concieved though IVF but it was unexplained infertility so you never know). Initially I thought to take the injection to cover 3 months and then decide whether to take my chances TTC or go for long term contraception if we decide not to have another child. However I'm a bit worried about the side effects like weight gain and irregular periods. Does anyone have suggestions of alternative options? I used to be on the pill but don't think I can remember to take it every day with the lack of sleep. I've also had good experiences with the Mirena coil but would only want to use it if we definately don't want more children and I'm unsure about this so far.

I would add we both hate condoms so don't want to go down that route.
