Copper coil weight

I've been on the copper coil for 11months now and it's caused me nothing but stress. I have constant headaches, brain fog at least 3x a week and I've gained just under 2 stone! I've been eating healthier for the last year than what I ever have done tbh and yet the weight keeps piling on, let alone the heavy periods and more discharge than usual! Please tell me I'm not alone? The drs say I need to diet and won't listen to me, they deny this being a side effect but before the coil I was happy and healthy now I just feel like a potato 🤮

I’m sorry, I’ve not had that experience at all and I’ve had the copper coil for 23 years now. However I do know that some women just cannot have a coil - it doesn’t agree with them and it evidently stresses the body very badly. It sounds like you’re one of the ones who really suffers with it. If it’s that bad I would have it removed I think.

Off the top of my head it doesn’t sound quite right that it would be causing brain fog and/or weight issues as it’s not a hormonal implant. Are you sure there’s nothing else that’s changed? It could be coincidental that your weight has gone up and you feel unwell.

I hope other women who’ve had negative experiences might be able to offer some insight into what sort of problems they had so that you can find some moral support. But if you’re suffering badly and continue to do so then your doctor(s) should remove it if that’s what you want!

@JPash Hi op ,is it definitely the copper coil that you had fitted and not a mirena ? I've had a copper coil for many years and not experienced anything like you describe, my friend had the mirena and had endless problems like you are describing.

I would be surprised if the brain fog and weight gain were related to the copper coil, because as pp has said it is not a hormonal contraceptive. That said, can you not just get it removed if you are not happy with it?

Have had mine for 10+ years no weight gain. Copper IUDs are know to cause heavier bleeding so maybe you're anemic? (That would explain the brain fog).

I had an abortion and the centre put the copper coil in while I was asleep, they definitely said it's the copper coil as I didn't want the extra hormones while I was mentally unstable.
I've had blood tests done about 6months ago because I found a couple of lumps.. (had to fight for it because Dr said it was in my head) and all levels come back fine- said it was just an inflamed lymph node and a few fat lumps 🙄 anemia never came up in the tests.

Nothing else has changed except being on the coil. My drs is impossible to get an appointment. Already phoned 48 times this morning and not managed to get through to anyone.

I was just seeing if anyone has had the same thing as what I'm experiencing before the Dr thinks that I'm making it up again 🤐

Do you know your ferritin levels? Low ferritin gives anemia symptoms but not all doctors recognise this

JPash · 06/07/2022 10:30

@Onlyrainbows I don't. All I got told was my hgc is slightly elevated along with another one (can't remember the name of it now though) but they said that's it was just where I had a cold or something it made the levels higher.
