Mirena coil - how to stop breakthrough bleeding?

Not sure if this is the best place to post but...

I’ve been on the mirena coil for almost 4 years. Naturally I have very heavy periods and even on this coil I have breakthrough bleeding pretty much every month. It’s usually very light and not a problem. However, the bleeding is extremely sensitive to my hormones, so basically whenever I’m excited or looking forward to something - weekend away, holiday etc - I am absolutely guaranteed to come on. It’s bloody annoying even if it is usually only quite light.

Anyway, this summer we have a really special holiday planned. We’re going somewhere I’ve always wanted to go, we’ve massively splashed out for our standards, we’re staying by a beautiful beach, we have a private swimming pool and I just want to enjoy without the annoyance of having my period on holiday. Previously when I was on the pill I could plan it so that it wasn’t an issue. I’m wondering if there anything I can do to make sure I don’t get this breakthrough bleeding while I’m on holiday? Just wondering if anyone had any advice? I would/will go to GP but appointments are still a bit of a nightmare if not urgent!

Thanks in advance 😊
