Copper coil

Is there any reason why a copper coil would be a bad idea in my early 40s? My GP surgery are not pleasant to deal with so I can’t ask them for advice - just to actually put one in if I do decide to.

I have finished having kids and just want contraception that is reliable and not hormonal if possible.

I bled continuously on the pill for months before I gave up and that has put me off. I got pregnant unplanned using the natural testing urine method! Can’t remember what it was called.

so hoping this may be the answer!

I have had one pollip which gave me inter period bleeding and I had to have that removed. If that is relevant?

advice very welcome - thank you so much

I’m on my second non hormonal coil and it’s great. V light periods. Just bit of pain for few hours after fitting.

Oh I am early 40s and about to get a coil. I have had the copper one in the past which I found great (slightly heavier oeriods may be?). I didn't like hormonal contraception as I am too unreliable at remembering, and it affects my moods and I get headaches/migraines. However I have opted for the mirena coil this time. The nurse said that the hormone is useful in menopausal signs (eg periods tend to get heavier peri menopausal, and the mirena helps to lighten (and regulate?) periods. The amount of hormone is very low and should only affect the local area, not high enough levels to cause headaches etc in most cases. I'll give it a try!

Thank you both. That’s encouraging for either copper or mirena

Hi, I’m going to be that one person with the horror story
I’ve had the copper coil for just under a year to find out I am that 1% that not only has got pregnant… but with twins😭(still in shock)
but otherwise I thought it was amazing. I got cramps from time to time but nothing major!
hope this helps, take care xx
