Which pill?

I asked the GP to put me on the pill recently. I've also just found out I've started perimenopause (mid forties, main symptom is low mood).

I've been on Cerazette for about two weeks and the only side effect is thrush, but it's quite bad. On the flip side my mood is much better!

I think I'll have to ask for a different pill but the GP never seems to offer much advice as to which one. Combined or mini? Which brand?? Anything that might help with peri if it progresses?

I am slim, a non smoker, no underlying health issues. Any advice would be great. Smile

If you don't have risk factors then combined pill could be an option. It's contraindicated over age 35 if you have a high BMI, smoke or have high blood pressure.

Could you not just treat the thrush and see if cerazette works for you?

Other types of mini pills have a 3 hour window rather than the 12 hour one you get with cerazette (desogestrel based).

Thank you. I have a feeling the thrush will linger as long as I take this pill (I've been treating it but it's not going away).

Hoping other pills might be better.

Personally I would choose the combined pill over cerazette as your oestrogen levels start to fall during peri, or try hrt possibly? There's no gaurantee that the thrush will improve though.

As far as which brand 9f combined pill to choose its difficult to recommend as a brand that suits one may cause bad side effects in another.
In my own experience of the combined pill I found that those ones with the progestogen levonorgestrel made me feel more low but that may not be the case for you.
