Implant and periods

Having my first period since having the implant put in. First time I've been on contraception in over a decade. So far it's showing no signs of letting up and it's normally finished by now. Please tell me this is normal?! I want to stop bleeding! Sad

Unfortunately for me the bleeding lasted months, I think it was 8 months of bleeding to some degree, mostly heavy (for me). I ended up on norethisterone as I was severely anaemic and couldn't get it taken out...

I hope it settles for you soon

I bled all the time on the implant. It was awful. Don't think that's uncommon sadly.

Thanks, my period is actually lighter than normal, but normally by now I'm spotting if not finished completely, it's been almost a week. Have no issue with having it taken out if needed as I can't be faffed with needing pads all the time, but really don't want the copper coil and it's the only non-hormal contraception out there aside from condoms.

Have you tried depo?

thedevilinablackdress · 03/12/2021 20:00

I went to the GP and got Norethisterone one time I had this on the implant. Took it for a few days, stopped the bleeding

@TheCanyon

Have you tried depo?
No, I hate needles and having to remember to make appointments every few months will be challenging due to health conditions, it's why I went for long term in the first place lol

Thank you, I'll check it out if it carries on. Why couldn't I be one of the lucky ones that doesn't get periods on the implant? XD

Envy I'm still spotting. I really don't like the implant so far! How long do you have to be bleeding for before they consider Norethisterone @thedevilinablackdress?

It was a fair while ago but I think I said it had been going on for a couple of months and it was getting me down.

Notconfident · 09/12/2021 18:24

I'm on enough chuffin' meds. May be easier to get rid of the damn thing and just add the pill daily instead. Ugh. I'm in a cranky mood right now XD

Fingers crossed for you!

I feel you totally. I also had the implant and stupidly stuck through with it for three years but the bleeding never settled for me and I could bleed for 2-3 weeks straight, heavy bleeds that just seemed to go on forever. I had it taken out and then was offered the mini pill which, like the implant, contains single hormone so it actually never settled my periods for me or stopped them completely, though I know that the implant and the mini pill often do stop them.

I was offered the Mirena coil as an alternative but I have had past nasty experiences with the coil so decided to give the combined pill one more chance. x
