Need contraception but don't know what

I was on depo until about 3 months ago. It caused lots of side effects which have really put me off hormonal contraceptives.
My periods stopped whilst taking it and I had a bleed a couple of weeks ago but it was a really light bleed. I was so worried I was pregnant as it's the last thing I want right now. I am 43 by the way. Pregnancy test was negative but it was a wake up call to sort out some other contraceptive.

I hardly have sex with my DH now but he has never taken responsibility for these things. Ideally he would wear a condom.

Any ideas on alternatives?
Mirena coil is out for me as it was so painful with horrible heavy periods.

I used a diaphragm with spermicide for a bit and we both preferred it to condoms, though the failure rate is higher and it can be tricky to get one fitted and the spermicide prescribed as they’re a bit retro 😂. I was still under 25 when we used it so got mine sorted at Brook, who were brilliant, but there must be other health professionals who can still help!

Not the best option if pregnancy would be a disaster.

If he won’t wear condoms, what about a vasectomy?
