Rigevidon and breastfeeding

Hello,

My baby is nearly three months old. I took Rigevidon before I was pregnant and would like to take it again.

Does anyone have any experience of taking it while still breastfeeding? I'm combi-feeding (more bottle than breast) and the doctor said it would be fine as long as the baby is at least six weeks old. I was just slightly put-off by the leaflet in the pill box saying not to take it when BF!

Would be interested to hear from other mums who took it while still BF - did it reduce your milk supply? Any other side effects?

Thank you so much in advance x

Me! It made no discernible difference to my supply at all, and I think the leaflet advice is just because the estrogen can reduce supply, not for any other risks.

Caveats: I naturally tended towards oversupply. I also didn’t swap from minipill to rigevidon until he was 3 (yes, still feeding) so he needed less milk anyway and as I didn’t really pump I may not have noticed a dip as it was mostly a bedtime thing by then.

All that said, I think I’d give it a go and just stop taking it and have a few days stuffing your face and feeding/pumping loads to get supply back up if you notice it dips and you want to keep giving breastmilk. It sounds like your supply is well established and you may well be fine.

Other side effects: the estrogen made me sad, but that’s normal for me. It also made my prolapse less symptomatic, on the plus side!

Me! Health visitor really pressured me into the mini pill and my supply dried up within 3 days so was advised to come off of it. Started my normal combined pill about a month and a half later and breast fed without issue for another five months. My baby was very small to start with and was like a vampire but the health visitor said he was putting on weight like a bottle fed baby. I don't think I struggled with supply. I think he was just an extra hungry baby with a lot of catching up to do.
