Contraception made with body identical hormones

I wonder if anyone is researching or developing hormonal contraceptives made from body identical hormones, like the modern HRT is made from. The recent press has led me to understand that body identical HRT is much safer than the older types of HRT with fewer side effects but so many women I know can’t tolerate hormonal contraceptives or don’t wish to take the risks associated with them and it made me wonder if body identical hormones would be equally effective but have fewer risks and side effects. Presumably I’m not the only person who has wondered this and hopefully some of them work for pharmaceuticals.

One of the big things I wish for my daughter is that there are safer contraceptives available when she’s an adult. I’ve failed to get on with all the options (I even have a latex allergy!!) so have relied on ‘natural’ family planning (observing signs of ovulation) for many years. It never feels that safe although the worst that’s happened so far is dd and she was only a few months earlier than I would have planned.

Anyway, here’s hoping!

Just had this same question occur to me, but a quick google brought up this thread and a load of HRT stuff.

If we now know that the old style HRT has greater risks, why hasn't the switch to body identical made it as far as contraception?

One thing I wish for my daughter’s generation is better contraceptive choices. I’ve never been able to tolerate hormonal contraceptives or IUDs either which doesn’t leave me with much else.
