What happens after referral for sterilisation?

Hi everyone

After a battle my gp has finally referred me to the gyn /hospital to be sterilised. I'm in the UK.
Is that it now, will it definitely go ahead? Or do I now have to persuade the consultant aswell?

Any tips on what to say would be appreciated. Also, I'm overweight with a large stomach. I understand this can mean I have to have it done via a different method. Had anyone experienced this? Will they still do it even though I'm fat? Also has anyone had it done with just local anaesthetic?

I had an appointment with a consultant and she wouldn’t do me as bmi is over 33 which is fair enough and went on and on about all the things that could go wrong I know they have to tell you this but she very much put me off. They will likely try to dissuade you but stick to your guns if it’s what you really want, I was just put off and happy to stay on depo for now.

I hope that's not the case as my bmi is 40 I am in the process of losing weight but obviously this isn't a quick fix
