I currently have heavyish periods (first 2 days) so have been told that they are not sure if the copper will be any good, and I've been reading up about the mirena coil and some side effects and on there anxiety seems to be on every thing I've read, my worry is I' have anxiety anyway (no were near as bad as what it was) I'm just wondering if you have slight anxiety etc before having it put in did your anxiety get really bad again? I'm worried I'm going to be stuck with it, the nurse said once it's in she won't remove it for at least 6 months and I can't go bk to how I was for 6 months (anxiety wise I couldn't even leave the house) any been in the same boat

Hi! I also have pretty bad anxiety and I have the Mirena coil. For me it has been fine, no apparent due to Mirena. It's stopped my periods too! It has agreed with much more than the pill, implant etc I've tried before. The pill turned my into a psycho (in dp's words) and the implant wasn't great either. So I would say go for it.

Also, I think it's rubbish about the 6 month thing. I am sure you could have it out if you wanted to. I had a similar issue with implant. I only had it for a couple months and I had to have it out. The nurse said to keep it in for a while I was insistent she took it out and she did.

Would you have it through gp or sexual health clinic?! Because I found the clinic much more professional!

No apparent change *

@Rube51 hey hun thankyou for replying, did your anxiety heighten or did it stays the same? My anxiety was so bad at 1 point I couldn't leave the house so don't want to go bk to that, I also have panic disorder so I don't want to tip off again if it does obviously cause it, and it'd be a sexual health clinic, it's the first time I'm having anything birth control wise so very nervous
And the 6month thing was coz she things you have to allow time and she thinks that's the right amount so she won't take it out 😐I think that's another reason I'm putting it off as I'm worried that if I have problems with it I'm stuck with it xx

If you already have heavyish periods, then I wouldn't consider the copper coil as it will very possibly make them even heavier.

Copper coil made my periods heavier

CoffeeCakey · 25/05/2021 10:57

There's another hormonal coil that can stay in for 3 years that might be worth looking at, I can't remember the name sorry. But it has a smaller dose of hormones. It might not stop your periods or reduce them as much though.

@CoffeeCakey @WhatMattersMost @Mammaaof thankyou for replying I've been advised to not have copper coil I've called the clinic and they've said we can go through them all and decide which one I want xx
