Emergency contraception ever failed ??

Well, as the title says.... has anyone's morning after pill (levenorgestrel) ever failed ? I'm not sure if I spelt it right but I have been left wondering what if it hasn't worked !? DTD on say day 1, took morning after pill within 12 hours.. it is now only day 4. I feel odd, according to my app I am 2 days late....

Yes. Took within 24 hours. Still got pregnant.

lissie123 · 14/04/2021 15:45

Taking emergency contraception can mess with your cycle though!

larrythelizard · 14/04/2021 15:53

It works by stopping you ovulating so if you've already ovulated then it's essentially no good!

timeforanewnameagain · 14/04/2021 16:03

It frequently fails because people don't realise it works by stopping you ovulating. If you've already ovulated then it doesn't stop you falling pregnant.

If you're two days late OP i'd get a test, sorry.

Wowthisisreal · 14/04/2021 16:13

What @larrythelizard said. If you've ovulated and have already conceived it won't stop the pregnancy.

Workaholic2mum · 14/04/2021 16:14

Oh gosh well my cycle has been all over the place I had started mini pill after having DS2 .... long story short ended up pregnant when DS1 was 7 months!! Well, DS2 is 8 months right now! So I was on the mini pill except it made me so miserable, moody, emotionally drained and I never stopped having breakthrough bleeding. So I just stopped it, my app says 2 days late but I don't think that it entirely accurate if you consider all the constant breakthrough bleeding. So as I was saying stopped the pill, miraculously stopped bleeding... DTD and had MAP within 12 hours. Surely I have not ovulated on the one day I stopped taking the mini pill... I'm on day 4 after the 'night of passion' ...the morning after pill has to of worked, or I could of had mini pill hormones in my system !?

But with your timeline it sounds like you ovulated over a week before you DTD. In that case I would imagine it has just messed with your cycle.

Wowthisisreal · 14/04/2021 16:17

@Workaholic2mum ignore me - we crossed posts.

Workaholic2mum · 14/04/2021 16:32

That's okay, I think @lissie123 is right, maybe messed with my cycle ...doesn't help its all over the place

Yes she turns 21 this year

Theunamedcat · 14/04/2021 16:34

Have you considered the copper coil?

Workaholic2mum · 14/04/2021 16:39

@Theunamedcat to be honest I've never taken anything so I'm not very familiar with or know the difference between the many types

Same as @Theunamedcat mine turns 21 this year also. I didn't know and wasn't made aware that the map didn't work if you'd already ovulated. I only found that out very recently on Mumsnet Confused

Haiyaa · 14/04/2021 16:52

You can ovulate very quickly after stopping the mini pill, it is why you have to take it within a small timeframe each day. You can’t go by what the app says as any bleeds you were having were not actually a period. If you had sex 4 days ago then I would do a pregnancy test in around 10 days time.

Workaholic2mum · 14/04/2021 19:31

@Haiyaa I honestly wasn't aware that you can be fertile so quickly I imagined the hormone from the pill would still be working its magic. I will wait for AF but will take on the advice to do a test on the 2 week mark. I also had no idea the MAP is ineffective after ovulation. I have used it in the past and it has always worked... a few days later I'd have a period. I appreciate all the feedback and information from everyone. Thanks all
