Confused!

Hey,

I’m looking for some advice as I feel a bit confused. I’m 43 have migraine with aura and acne (lovely ....) I’m not on anything at moment. Was on Dianette before kids and it was brilliant. Flawless skin and normal periods. Of course, I can’t have that anymore as guidance changed. I’m fed up of my skin breaking out (back and chest) and the heavy neverending periods. Its really knocked my confidence and with summer coming I’ll have to keep dressing like a nun. I’m normal weight. Don’t smoke. Finished having kids. What on earth can I take? Everything seems to have changed since I was on anything - SO many options. Coil says heavier periods. Anyone in same situation or can offer a suggestion? Can’t get an appointment locally unless its an emergency so I thought I’d try here before approaching them.
Thanks so much if you got this far.
I feel old and uninformed!

Mini pill, coil (copper or mirena), injection or implant may be options as they don't contain oestrogen

Thanks for coming back on this. Copper coil I heard generally makes periods heavier? Which I definitely don’t want and mini pill causes acne? Or
do they all give random side effects and
Its trial and error?
Xx

They are trial and error. I didn't get acne with the mini pill and mirena coil and both stopped my periods. I had bleeding with the injection and put on loads of weight

Hi OP

I'm a bit younger than you and I don't suffer with acne but do have migraine with aura, made worse with stress and sometimes hormonal.

I've tried many things over the years (pill, injection amongst others) and for the last three have had a copper coil, so no hormones at all.

This has worked really well for me with no issues at all despite all the horror stories people insisted on telling me Hmm My periods haven't been any heavier, last the same amount of days as they always have and are regular as clockwork.

I'm 49 and have been on the mini pill for 4yrs. No periods and no acne either!

wellhellohi · 30/03/2021 22:33

Mirena coil - life saver. No periods smooth skin.

moochingtothepub · 30/03/2021 22:36

Mirena works for many women but not all. It stopped my periods almost entirely after 3 months, I just get a little spotting at the appropriate time most months, perhaps a day a little more.

Thanks all! It looks like mini pill and the coil might be worth investigating. Lighter periods and better skin would be the dream. The acne is really bad running up to cycle and sometimes immeditately after- like there’s a flush of hormones. Stabilising that would be great. I generally cover up- on beach- when taking kids swimming I have this jacket thing. Its awful. I mean, come on, I’ll take the wrinkles but blimey - not the acne too Sad
