Experiences on copper coil

I have epilepsy and have been told my contraceptive options are either the injection or the copper coil due to hormones etc.

I had the injection 3 months ago and bled the entire time, so not having that again. Apparently that can be normal for your first 3 injections - so 9 months of bleeding?? No thanks.

I'm having the copper coil at the end of this month, but was wondering how others have gotten along with it? Don't seem to have any other option really bar condoms, and I can't imagine my partner wants to use those for the rest of his life.

If you can have the injection then are other progesterone only contraceptives not also an option e.g. mini pill, mirena coil, etc?

Looks like mirena coil is OK but mini pill is not especially if you take certain types of epilepsy medication. Copper coil can cause heavier periods.

I've had one for around 7 months and very pleased with it so far. Heavier periods for first few months but now pretty normal and love having a normal cycle and no hormonal side effects.

Have you completed your family? Could your partner have a vasectomy

I'm on my third. Periods last a day longer, that's about it, no side effects for me otherwise

there's more hormones in the injection than the mirena. So odd to be told you can have the injection but. It the mirena

Had mine for about 18 months, periods are longer 7-8 days with couple of heavy days but not too bad, I had been on the pill age 16-24 then 4 babies over 8 yrs then back on pill so I’m comparing it to a ‘pill’ period though which is short and light!
I have noticed my cycle is short 24/25 days but again this might just be my normal.
Anyway apart from that don’t know it’s there, it was easy enough to be fitted and will last for 10 yrs, I like not having hormones, I blamed pill for weight gain but have now realised I’m just greedy Grin but I do feel more like myself, I felt the pill hormones gave me a bit of an ‘edge’ to my personality Grin
