Help! Emergency contraception - coil during covid?

TitsalinaBumSquash · 17/02/2021 06:59

We've had a condom split, I have ordered EllaOne to pick up and take at lunchtime today.
I'm bang on 14 days of my cycle and I'm usually super fertile.

Another pregnancy isn't a option for us.

Will I need a copper coil? Can I even get one during Covid and am I suitable??
I have a long on/off issue with Group strep B and pelvic inflammation and infection so I don't know if that makes me not a candidate.

Before anyone jumps in - DH is waiting for a vasectomy but Covid has prevented it happening.

Sure it will vary region on region, but I requested a coil back in November and I'm still on a waiting list.

Not sure whether they'd put one in more urgently for a emergency contraception case?

I guess all I can do is call the local sexual health clinic and see what they say, they have an emergency number to call during the pandemic, hopefully they will consider this a form of emergency.

I've spoken to NHS sexual health nurse who was lovely, she confirmed I would need a coil but there is no appointments until Monday right on the 5 day 'cut off' which she's booked provisionally (in the next county!) she is going to call her team and see if there's anything else they can do.
I'm trying not to panic.

@TitsalinaBumSquash keeping my fingers crossed for you

Thanks! The wonderful team at the local SH clinic for me in just now during a quiet period and I have to say it was the easiest, most helpful appointment I've ever had, everyone gentle and kind and the chap fitting the coil got it in first time I'd barely registered.

What a relief!

Great news! So pleased they've sorted you out!! Hoping my appointment comes through soon for the coil. They're saying a 6 month wait here 😂!
