Like the title says.. I got the mirena on Friday and I've had on and off spotting since (I am expecting my period any day now) but I went to the toilet earlier and there was a clot. Is this normal? Many thanks.

How big was the clot? I had the mirena fitted in Oct and I was spotting or bleeding every day until Xmas. I’ve only just stopped wearing a panty liner every day. My first period following fitting was just like my usual period but since then there has been less bleeding each period. I’m looking forward to when it gradually lessens to a few days or stops periods altogether. Unless it was a massive clot, I’d just presume it was an early bleed as your period is due soon.

I had a coil fitted in august for heavy prolonged bleeding and bled daily. I ended up with severe bleeding and clotting which made the coil fall out in October.

Had another fitted last week and no spotting this time. I'm still on northisterone though (twice a day for 2 weeks and then once a day for 2). I'm fully expecting bleeding when I stop it.

If you have lining in your uterus it will still come out. The coil should reduce the amount of lining you produce but it can take 3-6 months to stop that and a year for some people.

Some people continue periods but they can be lighter.

It was just like the size of 20p but it was bloody with thick clear jelly discharge.. sorry tmi.. I was just rushed out the doctor's quite quickly I didn't get any leaflets on what to expect so I'm assuming as I ovulated before getting the coil and my period is due the next two days I'll get this as normal? Many thanks.

Here's a photo of info I got. Hope it's helpful. The coloured out bit is just dr address not any info.

I shouldn't worry about a clot that size. I was losing clots the size of a jelly pot (10 an hour for 4 hours) and was still described as a heavy period! Usual period I lose 50p sized clots as normal for days!

Don't forget as the iud sits in your uterus by arms it's May dislodge any wall lining as it's inserted and that could cause a clot of that isn't normal for you.
