Coil, pill and still f-ing bleeding

I had the mirena coil fitted a year ago. Lots of issues, bleeding / spotting and lots after sex. The dr said to give it 6 months. I did no improvement and lockdown happened, so no chance of it being removed.

I have had an STD test, ultrasound, colposcopy gyne dr had a look, all normal. The gp still not convinced it was the coil, even tho the issue only started when the coil was fitted. Gyne dr thinks it is. He couldn’t remove it at the appointment a d has asked my Gp to remove it.

The problem resolved on the pill for the first 6 weeks. But now I am bleeding more than normal. It seems to be when I climax - manual stimulation, penetration anything that climax. I then get horrible cramps. The other night I flooded, then it stopped for a day. Partner and I fooled around and then I bled again.

Called GP and they are reluctant to remove it due to covid, but it’s running my sex life and I feel really down. I don’t bleed if I abstain from any form of sexual contact. I feel my uterus contracting is jabbing into the coil, hence the bleeding.

Has anyone had this experience?

So sorry you’re experiencing this and not getting any real answers from the drs. I’ve had to have the mirena coil fitted because I was having bleeding which only happened after sex. After lots of investigations, my gynae concluded that my womb was never fully clearing the lining at the end of each period so when I had sex it kind of drew the blood down hence the bleeding/spotting. I looked it up and it’s true that climax can start a bleed. Can I ask, is the bleeding worse just after a period? I’ve found that the coil has fixed my bleeding so maybe it will help you soon too.

Just reread your post and noted you’ve had the coil for a year. I think you definitely should get it removed, it must be affecting your lining in some way.

The coil does take time to settle sometimes, I’m on my third and first time it was instantly great, no pain, no periods, second and third times took about six months to get to the same point.

It’s doesn’t sound like it’s working for you. If you want it out, make a bloody big fuss. Covid does NOT prevent them from removing it, particularly when it’s causing you this amount of trouble.

Makes me so mad that women’s right to treatment is being withheld in this way, but that’s another thread.

On a practical level a nurse can remove it, removing them is easy. Putting them in you’d want someone who’d done it a lot of times, but taking it out - not hard.

I can relate to so much of what you said. If I sneezed I would bleed. Went for a walk i would bleed. I remember the feeling you are describing when it would move about and scrape my insides in the corners. Really puts you off sex. Of course it's the coil! I would say If that gp wont remove it then you have a right to ask for another. Best if luck

@Pawprints2017
Yeah it’s not great. The pill is finally working. No bleeding and pain stopped. It’s been 3 weeks. Finally managed to get an appointment to get it removed. Now worried I will bleed for ages once it’s removed. Staying on the pill and hope bleeding will just be trauma of removal.

Pawprints2017 · 28/12/2020 12:18

Hoping it goes ok for you. The bleeding stopped for me quite quickly once it was removed!

Bahumbug11 · 28/12/2020 13:06

@Pawprints2017 how long did it last for? Did your cycle return to normal quickly?

Pawprints2017 · 28/12/2020 19:55

Stopped bleeding the next day if I remember correctly. I only have a cycle every 7/8 months. It returned straight back to that. Hope this helps!

Bahumbug11 · 29/12/2020 11:45

@Pawprints2017 that’s encouraging

This is what I have been like with coil, bleeding after sex, or on then off for a day etc. Doctor prescribed tablets to stop bleeding which I stopped taking NYE- today I have had lots of bleeding / clots and passed the coil out with all the bleeding.
It’s been a horrible 5 weeks but like you they said give it 5/6 months- my Body obviously thought otherwise
