Implant - First Period After A Year

GinFug · 13/11/2020 23:44

I know our health service has a lot to deal with at the moment, so don't want to take up a GP appointment but I was hoping a MNer could let me know if this is normal.
I had DD in July 19, then the implant fitted in August. No periods at all since - until a couple of weeks ago when my period started. We're now two weeks in and it shows no sign of stopping any time soon. Lots of period pain and really sore boobs.
Has anyone else had this?

Hi OP!

I am on my second implant now - had a break in between and used Depo and then went back to implant

First implant I had in for 2 years, no periods or side effects and all of a sudden started having heavy periods that would last nearly a week, a day or two off in between and another period straight after. This went on almost 6 months until the clinic eventually removed it for me after begging

I have my second implant in now has been in since February, no periods again until September where I had a light bleed and I now have a light period every 15 days or so!

The joys of the implant

Thank you so much for your reply @THJ8LL . Ahhh, the joys of the implant! So I guess I just need to grin and bear it for a little while longer. I'm just so glad to hear I'm not the only one!

I got my implant taken out after 18 months. It was fine for a year while I was breastfeeding and when I stopped bf I had horrendous thrush for 1-2 weeks before each period which wouldn't clear with creams or pessaries and periods that lasted 4-6 weeks. I put up with it for 6 months and then got implant taken out. Couldn't do it on NHS as the sexual health clinics weren't doing routine appts or procedures so went privately. It certainly doesn't suit everyone!
