Coil - bleeding 1 year on. Experiences?

I have had the coil for 1 year. I still get random bleeding. I will have a light period, with pms that lasts 1 week. Few days break and then bleed again for a few days. Some months I will not bleed for 40 days, then I will bleed on and off for a month.

It’s getting me down. GP reluctant to remove it as she thinks it’s due to having cervical erosion. But this irratic bleeding has only started since having the coil. She wants to manage it with more Hormone pills.

Any experiences?

Do you have a copper or hormonal coil? I had a copper coil and developed anemia due to such heavy bleeding, ended up having to change to the other coil. Could it be that? Since changing I actually have no period which I hate, but I know plenty of people that have had what you are experiencing. If you are having to take pills anyway, isn't it worth just changing your method entirely?

Which coil do you have? It might even out in the long run but otherwise you should check out The Lowdown - they have thousands of women's reviews which share data on side effects etc. Hope it helps!

Hi yes I had heavy bleeding and spotting (among many other side effects) this was with the copper coil. Had it in for 3 years and just had it removed. As I couldn’t take it anymore, anaemic cramping bloating takes its toll.
Prior to that I had the mirena, but alas after 18months that had to go as the hormones were affecting me moods too much and causing relationship issues.

I was adamant I needed the coils out and both times they tried to talk me out of it. I know for some people it was fab. But didn’t agree with me.
